One of the most difficult bite problems for an orthodontist to correct is called a Class II malocclusion. This is the type of bite where the upper teeth (and/or upper jaw) are biting ahead of the lower teeth (and/or lower jaw). Sometimes this is referred to as “buck teeth” or “overbite”.
The AdvanSync appliance has been designed to work with the growth of the jaws to help correct the bite. It is designed to reposition the lower jaw in a more forward position with the thought that this will encourage additional lower jaw development while simultaneously restricting forward growth of the upper jaw; similar to the effects of an orthodontic headgear.

The AdvanSync is a modified Herbst Appliance that has been designed to be glued to the upper and lower molar teeth. As such, it cannot be removed and is referred to as a “fixed” appliance. Typically, the Advansync is left in place for 6-12 months with periodic adjustments being made by the orthodontist.
